The long overdue update is here! I am sorry that it took forever! Needless to say will cover a few basic principles to help get you priests on your feet. As always I ENCOURAGE all of our priests despite their current spec - that you help contribute any knowledge surrounding the basis of Holy Priest / Raid healing. During each raid - Each Holy Priest will be assigned a specific assignment by your Class Leader. It is important we all our jobs/assignments to ensure a smooth encounter despite the level of difficulty!
- I would personally suggest that anyone considering playing priest, roll a dwarf priest on an account of Fear Ward (Which will make you resist 1 count of Fear for 3 minutes) The catch? 30 second CD baby!
- I would also suggest that if looks are everything, that in this case you roll Night Elf (The Racial -Although not Fear Ward, gives 20 additional Nature Resistance! Important for AQ20/40!
** At this point I will include a couple of screen shots of what Talent / Spec I personally prefer to maximize raid heals / single target! Although we don't currently have any Discipline priests, I would most certainly not mind trying one! Especially for Power Infusion / Single Target/Tank Healer.
This particular spec is a more raid focused healing spec. This will be similar to a single target holy as well.
This particular spec is build in combination of a Power Infusion Healing priest. This spec is designed to assist in stronger single target heals while having a form of mana efficiency. The reason I advise we stay away from lightwell, is that it is truly not a very effective tool for healing. As you can see, this spec also grants the spirit buff as well. This is VERY nice for all raid heals and warlocks too
This particular spec is a Power Infusion / Single Target healer. This spec packs A LOT up to 10% chance to crit with offensive spells, and grants both Spirit / PI. This will be a good addition to all healers, warlocks, and Caster DPS. Unless we designate Power Infusion to the Priest holding it. None the less, at this time don't worry about following or spec'ing into this. The overall trade off and benefits of having a DISC PRIEST are not very notable.
The overall key to any healing spec is maximizing heals without going out of mana! This is where down rank healing comes into play. As a holy priest I typically heal 4 ranks down from any spell if the damage intake is only moderate. This slice the mana cost up to 40% MIN - Whole allowing to still heal for a significant amount.
While playing Holy Priest, you'll have noticed that with the spirit buff / stacking spirit also increase healing. Although in many circumstances an "MP5" item bonus is typically greater. This just allows you to not only increase your MP5, but over all +Healing as well.
Mana potting at 65% is always another important factor for any given BOSS - this will take u close to 100% and hopefully allow u to have another mana potion available if needed. We too are currenty doing our best to find druids who can also innervate which does about 3x the work a mana pot does, but a lots a larger Druid CD and takes away from other healers. Maintaining mana while balancing Lower/Higher rank heals is again the key!
I will work to post a BiS pre raid item check to help you scoot along without having to do much looking!
